Local named to CBC Manitoba’s Future 40 under 40

Since 2015 CBC Manitoba has been asking “Do you know somebody under 40 years of age who is making an outstanding contribution in the lives of Manitobans or is having an impact on the future of our province?“ Since then, CBC Manitoba has recognized 160 individuals with this distinction. It likely won’t come as surprise too many that know her, but this year Kerry Midford from The Pas was named to those ranks.
Midford, an Early Childhood Educator at The Pas Uptown Daycare, is a long-time volunteer in the community of The Pas, Manitoba. A volunteer with local Girl Guides for the past 15 years she also took over as Commissioner in 2019. Prior to that, she was Leader. She sits on the Area Council and her duties mean that she often travels out of town to assist other Girl Guide Troops in Northern Manitoba (her area covers about a million square miles, basically the top half of Manitoba). Her career is as an early childhood educator but she also sits on the board of the Uptown Day Care. Despite being employed by Uptown Day Care he chooses to do a lot of fundraising for them on her own time. Fundraising activities include raffle ticket sales, searching for grants and organizing activities to get the community involved in the importance of this valuable service in the community. On Sundays, she teaches Sunday School at the Westminster United Church in The Pas and has done so for the past four years. Recently she has taken up learning sign language and hopes to start offering lessons through The Pas Friendship Centre soon. She has been quoted as saying “Not everyone grew up the same way. Maybe I might make a small difference. I have had two open-heart surgeries, so I make the best of it.”
CBC Radio took the time to interview Midford on November 13 about her being named and the full interview is linked to the Opasquia Times Facebook page https://www.cbc.ca/listen/live-radio/1-101-radio-noon-manitoba/clip/15808696-cbcs-future-40-kerry-ann-midford-childhood-educator.
“It truly is an honour being named one of this year’s CBC’s Manitoba Future 40. I was quite surprised when CBC called to congratulate me. There are so many deserving candidates in our province. Myself along with 39 others in Manitoba make up this year’s Future 40 under 40. I am very honoured to be receiving this award.”
