Drugs stopped at entry point

Police in Garden Hill First Nation stopped drugs from entering the community right at the point of entry last week.
The fly-in First Nation seen the Island Lake RCMP, who serve a wide area, stop a passenger coming in on a flight on April 30. The passenger was stopped coming off a commercial flight to the community from Winnipeg and was subsequently arrested. When police executed a search warrant, they found 70 grams of methamphetamine, 230 Percocets, 65 grams of crack cocaine and an unspecified amount of cash.
Police arrested 38-year-old Paul Beardy. Beardy, who is a resident of Garden hill First Nation, is now facing charges of possession of property obtained by crime as well as three counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking.
A court date for Beardy wasn’t announced as of press time.
Island Lake RCMP continue to investigate.
