Ducks Unlimited banquet puts fun in fundraising

It was another successful year for the annual Ducks Unlimited banquet.
The local chapter of the Ducks Unlimited branch held their banquet fundraiser recently and as has come to be the norm in The Pas and OCN, the event was a smashing success.
The exact amount of money raised was not yet finalized but Alan Smith, Manager of Events and Volunteer relations with Ducks Unlimited, estimated the event raised somewhere between $38,000 to $42,000, which falls in line with previous years. In recent years, the event raises on average approximately $40,000 which go towards Ducks Unlimited activities.
“I thought the event was fantastic,” said Smith. “There was a buzz all night.”
Smith praised the “strong volunteer committee” for the success of the event, both this year and in previous years.
“They always seem to have a strong fundraising committee that I think is the backbone of their success.”
The event was sold out, not unusual for the banquet which has over one hundred people in attendance. Smith nodded his head towards the ticket sellers as well as the donors and sponsors of the various prizes which are available at the event for that.
Prizes range from smaller donated items like water bottles to larger items such as jackets and tools, while the silent auction features many items which can go for several hundred dollars and live auction items tend to go for even higher amounts. It is all surrounded by a lively and active atmosphere, fuelled in part by an open bar and numerous games to play.
And the money is often locally spent. While the dollars raised go back into the province as a whole, Ducks Unlimited is very active in and around The Pas, meaning a good percentage of the dollars raised go back into the local area.
