Abigail Rae McKinnon (Abby) has been skating since she was four years old. She is from Wanless, Manitoba and has been a member of The Pas Minor Hockey league since she was five.
On May 11th, 12th and 13th she will be attending Manitoba's top 40 female U-16 POE hockey camp that is being held in Portage La Prairie, from this tournament of 40 girls they will be selecting team Manitoba's under 16 Provincial team.
Abby attends M.B.C.I where she is a grade nine student. Abby works very hard, not only is she an accomplished hockey player but she is also an honour roll student.
A big shout out has to go to her hockey coaches; these dedicated volunteers have guided her and many other young hockey players in The Pas and have given them the opportunity to play at a higher level. Many times, these volunteers are not just coaches, they are mentors, teachers, and in many cases an ear to listen. I say thank you for all you do!
Abby attends school all day and catches her bus home to Wanless. In winter her Dad has made an outside rink for her where she would practice her puck handling and skating skills.
Abigail is 15 years old and has many aspirations and goals; one of these goals was to play with a university team on a scholarship. This upcoming tournament is one step closer towards her ultimate goal which she told me was to play on Canada's senior woman's Olympic hockey team. We all need to dream, why not dream big, work hard, and have fun doing it?
Congratulations Abby and good luck in Portage la Prairie!
