RCMP serving in our community honored

The Province of Manitoba marked the rich history and hard work of Canada's national police force last year when they proclaimed February 1st as Royal Canadian Mounted Police Day in Manitoba.
In the spirit of paying tribute to those serving in our community, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #19 held a supper for The Pas & Opaskwayak RCMP as well as the Opaskwayak Police members.
“The Branch was please to be a partner for hosting the appreciation dinenr for local RCMP members and their families,” Legion President Angie Nikolychuk commented.
The Branch reached out to other groups in the community as well to see if they would like assist in the suppr efforts. As a result, the Kinsmen, Arctic Beverages, the Legion Ladies Auxilliary, the Air Cadets and Branch 19 all support the supper financially.
Nikolychuk said it was appreciated that so many groups wanted to assist in honoring those members that go out day after day and do the job they do.
“The dinner that was provided and served to The Pas & OCN RCMP members and all support staff on RCMP Day was nothing short of fantastic,” Sgt. Brent Lemieux commented.
“We greatly appreciated what every group did to join and give us this special thanks. The meal was great, the plaques presented to us were very thoughtful, and the cadets served us very well. It was a day we will never forget and goes along way in maintaining and strengthening relationships with the community and partners. Thank you to the Legion for hosting us,” he added.
Joining in paying tribute to the members and families were Opaskwayak Cree Nation Vice-Chief Jennifer Flett, RM of Kelsey Reeve Rod Berezowecki, Town of The Pas Councillor Bill Ward, and Ladies Auxilliary President Laurel Polasaari, who all provided welcoming remarks and thank yous to the RCMP for their service.
