Spray park gets another very sizeable donation

As progress towards a new spray park in The Pas begins to accelerate, another sizeable donation came in for its construction.
The Westoba Credit Union awarded The Pas Families Building a Better Community (TPFBBC) a grant in the amount of $20,000, with staff from the local branch meeting TPFBBC chairperson Davide Novo Friday morning to present him the cheque.
A call for applications for Westoba’s newly created community giving program called Inspire was made in June. Of the applicants they received, five were selected including TPFBBC.
“Westoba received over 30 applications for funding this past June,” says Jim Rediger, Westoba’s Chief Executive Officer. “We were overwhelmed by the response. To see so many great projects happening in our communities is wonderful and we’re honoured to help bring them to life.”
The spray park was the big winner, taking in $20,000 of the $35,000 total in funding to the five selected projects. The $20,000 is payable over multiple years according to Westoba Credit Union.
Successful applications were chosen based on their ability to align with Westoba’s goal to support community infrastructure stated the financial institution in an announcement of the funding.
The donation comes on the heels of a summer full of them for the spray park. After a decade long struggle to get the spray park funding and land in place, a service agreement with the Town of The Pas earlier this year paved the way for the spray park to be built. This in turn led to donations pouring in. The $20,000 from Westoba brings the total dollar amount for donations over the past five months to approximately $100,000.
TPFBBC were conducting soil sample testing last week and expected to begin work on the spray park this fall.
