Documentary to focus on OCN Knowledge Keeper

Toronto-based Anishinaabe filmmaker Lisa Jackson was in The Pas last week to begin filming her feature-length documentary Wilfred Buck. The film, which is a co-production with the National Film Board of Canada (NFB), looks to the night sky and Cree Elder Wilfred Buck to tell a story that spans generations, much of it centered on stories of The Pas and area.
Buck, who used to go by the nickname “Smokey,” is a member of Opaskwayak Cree Nation and spent his younger years at The Barrier, The Pas, OCN and Umpherville. He now lives in Winnipeg with his wife and family and is a highly-respected educator, star knowledge keeper and ceremonial leader.
