Community lights up the sky

With some spreading of the word on Facebook last week, local resident Ed Demchynski put on a fireworks show that turned into an event drawing an incredibly large attendance. Demchynski’s show which started at 8 PM was a welcome diversion for many and it was no surprise the lineup of cars extended from Tuscan Drive all the way back to town and equidistant back out into Carrot Valley. People arrived from all over and were able to maintain social distancing by enjoying the show in their own vehicles or within the large contingent of snowmobilers.
In addition to Demchynski’s display, Opaskwayak Cree Nation had their fireworks display at midnight in four separate locations. While it was not possible to enter OCN due to pandemic restrictions, townspeople were able to enjoy that show from the river bank. Social media posts from a wide variety of citizens highlighted how the displays brought a bit of welcomed joy and excitement to the community.
