The Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) this Monday released their pre-season schedule and various exhibition games were unveiled including the schedule for the games the OCN Blizzard will be playing.
OCN will not be playing against Flin Flon this year unlike in pre-season games in recent years but instead will be playing against the La Ronge Ice Wolves for two games on September 5 here at home, and then OCN goes on the road five days later on September 10.
The very next night OCN will be at home taking on the Swan Valley Stampeders on the night of September 11 before concluding their pre-season three days later by taking on Swan Valley on the road down in Swan River.
The Blizzard coaching staff is excited to play a new team in the pre-season this year.
“It’ll be something new to play an SJHL team again besides Flin Flon and I think La Ronge will be a good trip for both teams, and obviously Swan River, we do play them in the home opener but we just thought we would get a pre-season look at each other,” said Greg Hunter, Assistant Coach of the OCN Blizzard.
The way the pre-season game schedules turned out Hunter said didn’t work out for any Flin Flon games to take place.
Hunter added that while they didn’t excel too much last season they makeup of the La Ronge team will be tougher than in the past.
“They weren’t very high in the standings last year but they’ll be a much improved team (this year) and they got a veteran lineup,” Hunter said.
On August 31 the OCN Blizzard Main Camp will be hosted at the Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre until September 3, registration information can be found on the Blizzard site at www.ocnblizzard.com.
