Hedley heads to Dauphin

This Monday it was revealed on the Dauphin Kings social media page that former OCN Blizzard Head Coach and General Manager Doug Hedley is back with the Kings after resigning from his positions with OCN earlier this month.
Hedley’s first experiences with OCN was in the midst of the 2006-07 hockey season as Head Coach, followed by two more seasons with the OCN Blizzard before being fired after the 2008-09 season.
He then went on to coach the BCHL’s Quesnel Millionaires for one season before moving on to coach Midget AAA hockey with the Parkland Rangers for a total of five seasons before returning to OCN during the 2016-17 season and the 2017-18 season.
The 2016-17 according to Hedley was “one of the best I’ve ever had, the players who wore the crest and the commitment was outstanding.”
That season saw 60 games played, with 39 wins, 17 losses and four overtime losses before the Blizzard eventually were toppled in the Manitoba Junior Hockey League finals by the Portage Terriers in six games.
Hedley also has extensive experience with Dauphin, serving in the head coach position initially for three seasons between 1989 and 1992 before returning nearly a decade later to the team for four and a half seasons from 2003-04 to 2006-07. This will mark his third time with the team and he inherits a club which has fallen on hard times after several big years, going just 14-44-2 and missing the post-season by 33 points. Only the 8-48-4 Waywayseecappo Wolverines were worse in the 11 team MJHL circuit.
Request for comment to Hedley was made but a message was not returned as of press time.
