The Pas and area celebrated the start of a New Year this past weekend as there were a number of events taking place both on New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day itself with something for everyone to do.
On New Year’s Eve The Pas Families Building a Better Community held a New Year’s Eve Party for the whole family at the Guy Hall with pizza, silent auctions, a photo booth and more.
Meanwhile on Opaskwayak Cree Nation (OCN) the OCN Blizzard in support of Miss OCN Blizzard Gabby Umpherville had a Pre-New Year’s Eve Social at the Kikiwak Inn Saturday night and at that social they had another draw for the OCN Blizzard Chase The Ace with Kristen Burns winning the pot with a grand total of $26,093.
At Oscar’s Place the Rotary Club of The Pas helped provide the local homeless population with a New Year’s Eve meal to enjoy in addition to all the other generous donations made by the community over the holidays to the shelter.
As for the Royal Canadian Legion they had a couple of New Year’s celebrations with a New Year’s Eve celebration which started at 9:00 p.m. Sunday night on the hall side with a dinner, dance and good times in general.
There was also the annual Royal Canadian Legion Levy Day on New Year’s Day which saw the veterans and servicemen of The Pas and area get together to celebrate the start of a new year alongside civilian guests and service people alike.
Read Friday’s edition of the Opasquia Times for an in-depth look at the Levy Day celebrations and what it means for the veterans and servicemen who attended it.
There were also numerous celebrations of New Year’s from other formal events to private get-togethers.
There was a lot to celebrate as we head into 2018 with everyone all around wishing each other a Happy New Year.
