Matthew Greening wins player of the month award

Before Friday night’s game that the OCN Blizzard played against the Steinbach Pistons, OCN defenceman Matthew Greening was named the Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries Player of the Month.
The 20 year-old player hails from Dauphin, weighs 159 pounds, and stands at 5’11.
During his time with OCN he has played a total of 25 games thus far as of Sunday, scoring four goals and 21 assists for 25 points.
Before being traded to OCN Greening played with the Dauphin Kings for two seasons, scoring 22 goals collectively along with 39 assists for 61 points.
Upon arrival in OCN, Greening, who was a forward, was moved back to the blueline and has excelled following the switch.
“Since we put him back there he’s been one of our top players, he’s led the backend when (Tavis) Roch has been suspended,” said Doug Hedley Head Coach and General Manager for the OCN Blizzard, adding that he had experience working with Greening before and was familiar with what he could do.
“He played a little bit of defence for me in AAA midget, so I knew he could play back there. He covered on the power play at times, he’s patient, he’s not scared to get hit and he hangs on the puck and makes for some very good breakout passes. Right now he’s probably one of our top d-men,” Hedley added.
In other player news OCN goaltender Emilien Boily was runner up to the MGEU Goaltender of the month, alongside Steinbach goaltender Matthew Thiessen. The goalie who won the award was Lasse Petersen of the Portage Terriers.
